Stanley L. Kell, Sr

Stanley L. Kell, Sr., 92, formerly of McClure Ave. in East Palestine, Ohio, passed away May 17, 2017 at Victory Ridge Hospice Center in Dayton, OH. Mr. Kell was born April 22, 1925 in East Palestine, a son of the late Lawrence S. and Mary L. Mollenkopf Kell and lived in East Palestine most of his life.

Stanley was a master brick and stone mason and last worked at Morrow Construction in Salem, OH. He was a member of Brick Layers Local #8, Youngstown, OH. Stanley also served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II as a cadet pilot and a nosegunner in B-24 bombers. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the George F. McBane Post #31 American Legion and a charter member of the Beaver Valley Model Airplane Club.

His wife, the former Justina Louisa Freed, whom he married November 30, 1946, died November 7, 2015.

He is survived by his sons: Stanley (Doris) Kell, Jr., of Jacksonville, FL, Retired Master Sergeant John Kell of Orange Park, FL and Retired Colonel Matthew (Lisa) Kell of Dayton; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Cecelia Kell of East Palestine.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Kell, and two grandsons, Joseph Kell and Clifton Kell.

Friends will be received from 12:00pm-1:00 pm Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the funeral home with Father Christopher Cicero officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
