Robert L. Gaither

North Lima-Robert L. Gaither, 88, of North Lima, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 12:31 pm at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gaither was born July 17, 1927 in North Lima, a son of Noble and Mabel Haas Gaither and had lived in this area all of his life.

Robert was a foreman for Ohio Edison over 40 years. He was a member of Paradise United Church of Christ. He had also been a member of the Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Department since 1951 and served as chief from 1987-1997. He was active as a 4-H advisor and served during World War II in the Merchant Marines.

His wife, the former Barbara McCarty, whom he married March 9, 1947 died April 30, 1989.

He is survived by three daughters, Marcia Mayberry of Columbiana, Carol (Ronald) Schultz of Leetonia and LeeAnn (Kevin) Chismar of Salem; two sons, Dennis Gaither and Wayne Gaither (Jodie Sawhill) of North Lima; a sister, Geraldine Neely of Girard; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Gaither.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Pastor Erik Cremeans, Chaplain for Community Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Thursday and 10-11 am Friday at the funeral home.
