Raymond Lee Moser

Raymond Lee Moser, 69, of Columbiana, died quietly at his home surrounded by family early Sunday morning after a long and brave struggle with cancer.

He was a graduate of the Fairfield-Waterford School, Youngstown University and Kent State University. He was a high school math teacher for 18 years, serving 13 of those for the Department of Defense schools in Germany. Over the course of his teaching career he also taught history and electronics. He left teaching in 1982 and went to work as a radiation technician at the Beaver Valley Power Station. He retired from Duquesne Light as a Health Physics Associate and Emergency Planner in 1999.

He lived most of his life in Fairfield Township, where he was born at home, the son of Albert and Gail (Saurer) Moser on July 26, 1941.

He enjoyed wood working, gardening, bird watching, fishing and riding his bike. He was a ham radio operator (WA8RTI) for over 40 years, holding an advanced class license. He was a natural storyteller and a keeper of family lore. He was patient and good humored with a laugh and a sly grin for anyone. He believed in the importance of service to community having volunteered with local ham clubs and Habitat for Humanity.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Moser, whom he married on October 15, 1968 and by a daughter, Heather (Steve) Moser. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Marion Moser, and a niece.
