Margaret Anne “Peg” Coalmer, age 90, passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024. Peg spent her final days surrounded by friends and family visiting from across the country.
Peg was born on May 14, 1933, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Robert and Grace Brown Garver.
Peg grew up in the Youngstown neighborhood of Brownlee Woods. She and husband Bill raised five children on an 18-acre farm in Canfield. Horses, dogs and cats beyond count also lived on the Coalmer plot. The Coalmers spent a lot of their time on the road, camping and outside at family festivities. Bill drove semi-trucks for a living, and Peg accompanied him on many outings. The two collected Fenton Art Glass together, a hobby she maintained her entire life.
Peg stayed an avid traveler and managed to visit nearly every state, and took many trips with her younger sister Bobbi, whom she adored. She loved visiting the Colorado mountains, where three of her children had lived. Peg enjoyed attending car shows, and every few years boasted a new vehicle of her own. At home, she was a voracious reader and especially loved romance and mystery stories. But she remained active for most of her life, roller skating until she was nearly 80 years old — and with a double knee replacement, to boot.
She is survived in life by her sister Bobbi Lower; children Dale Coalmer (Salli), Keith Coalmer (Wanda), Debra Mangas and Kathy Ludt; grandchildren Jesse, Jonathan, Steven, Eric, Paige, Jacob, Jora, Jered, Jeffrey and Billy; great grandchildren Kailee, Ian, Harli, Riley, Serge, Eloise, Charlotte, Mason and Bjorn.
She is preceded in life by her loving husband William “Bill” Coalmer, brothers Rowland and William Garver, daughter Sharon Eagan and son Steven.
Peg will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all the people she met in her long and fruitful life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations on behalf of Margaret Coalmer to Hospice of the Valley.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at the funeral home, at 2:00 pm, with Mr. Mick Naples officiating.
