Donald E Evans

Columbiana- Donald E. Evans, age 91, of Columbiana, died on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Hospice House of Poland.

He was born on February 4, 1927 in Mineral Ridge, a son of the late Howard and Hulda Hooley Evans.

Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WW II.  He was a graduate of Columbiana High School where he was inducted into the Columbiana Athletic Hall of Fame.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Mount Union and his master’s degree in education from Youngstown State.  Don had worked as a licensed insurance agent and manager as well as a junior high school science teacher for 30 years retiring in 1990 from the Salem Schools.  He was a member of the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion in Columbiana and the “Monday Night Golf League” at Valley Golf Course, Columbiana.  Don enjoyed woodworking, golfing and oil painting.  Mostly, Don will be remembered as a man who enjoyed spending time with his family. 

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kay Martin Evans whom he married on August 5, 1951; two daughters, Melissa (John) Bloor of Lisbon and Jennifer (Steve) Barnes of St. Cloud, MN. and two sons, Dr. Mark (Joy) Evans of North Lima and Dr. D. Matthew (Brenda) Evans of Bristol, RI.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Corey, Jacob, Nathan and Michael Evans, Brian Barnes, Teri Medure, Erin Donkin, Katie Boswell, Allison Leggett and Emily Barnes, as well as twelve great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Mae Maxwell and a brother, Dr. H. David Evans of LaGrange, KY.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, at the church at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Fritz Nelson officiating.

Burial will be at the Columbiana Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana or Hospice of the Valley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
