Carl Richard Dettmer

New Waterford - Carl Richard Dettmer, 67, of 46310 Carter Road died Monday evening, March 7, 2011, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Dettmer was born September 7, 1943 in Youngstown, a son of the late Carl F. and Gertrude Greene Dettmer.

He had been employed as a welder at Transpec in Columbiana. He was a member of the Leetonia Sportsman's Club, the NRA and the Potters Camp. Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was known for his tree cutting and lumberjack sports

He is survived by his wife, the former Sherri L. Straub Guesman whom he married October 8, 2005; three sons, Keith Dettmer and Kevin Dettmer, both of Youngstown and Brian Dettmer of Texas; a step son, Michael Guesman, Jr. of New Waterford; a step daughter, Julie Taylor of New Waterford; a brother, Rudy Dettmer of North Jackson; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nicole Dettmer and a son, Christopher Dettmer.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Leetonia Sportsman's Club. Arrangements were made by the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
