Anthony "Tony" Sposato Obituary

Leetonia- Anthony “Tony” Mario Sposato, age 90, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, February 16, 2020, surrounded by family at Whispering Pines in Columbiana, Ohio.

Born April 12, 1929 in Leetonia, OH, Tony was one of four sons born to Italian immigrants, Giovanni and Rosaria Gabriele Sposato. He graduated from Leetonia High School, then pursued his love of history and law at John Carroll University in Cleveland. After graduation, he proceeded to earn his degree in architecture from Kent State University.

After college, Tony served several years as an officer in the United States Army.

For over 50 years, Tony loved his work as an architect in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. He began his career at The Cafaro Company in Youngstown, before moving on to work independently. Throughout his career, Tony enjoyed working on a broad spectrum of design projects.

As a devout parishioner of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish in Leetonia, Tony was a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked on the cemetery committee. He was very active in both the Catholic Alumni Club and the John Carroll University Alumni Association for many years. He enjoyed taking Italian classes at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Youngstown. Tony also loved photography and spent many years capturing family memories.

Better known to his loved ones as Uncle Tony, he spent a lifetime devoted to his family. Admired for his unique sense of humor and honesty, his words of wisdom, and his generosity, Uncle Tony cared for and loved his many nieces and nephews in a way no one else could. He inspired his family with his love of learning and endless pursuit of knowledge, and he delighted in watching his nieces and nephews follow in his footsteps.

Tony is loved and will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his brother, Joe (Geraldine) Sposato of North Lima, OH, sister-in-law, Amy Sposato of Poland, OH, and many nieces and nephews: John (Rhonda) Sposato of Jacksonville, FL, Carol (John) Dawson of Columbiana, OH, Marie (Michael) Underwood of Columbiana, OH, Janice (Jack) Stephenson of Columbiana, OH, Missy Sposato of East Liverpool, OH, Christopher (Irene) Sposato of Bishop, GA, and Cynthia (Michael) Oliver of Loveland, OH.

He is also survived by his 21 great nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph Sposato and Dino (Patricia) Sposato; and a nephew, Michael Sposato.
