William C. Manning, age 86, of 331 Bell Avenue, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the emergency room of Salem Community Hospital after being stricken at his residence.

He was born, October 9, 1920, in Jefferson PA, son of Homer and Anna Rush Manning.

Mr. Manning had lived in Lisbon for a number of years, moving to Columbiana in 1993. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbiana.

He served in the Headquarters Company, 5th armored division in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe during WW II.

After working for the Crane/Demming Company in Salem, he was transferred to the Houston, Texas plant and retired from there in 1983. He later returned to work as Plant Manager of the Griswold Pump Company of Winter Haven, Florida and retired there in 1992.

His first wife, the former Evelyn Kelly whom he married December 20, 1940, preceded him in death May 7, 1985.

Surviving is his second wife, the former Dorothy Gardner Swogger, whom he married October 2, 1993; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Linda) Burton of Lisbon and Mrs. Blair (Renee) Hill of The Woodlands, Texas; two sons, William 'Kim' (Sue) Manning of Atlanta Georgia and Jeffery (Charlene) Manning of Scottsdale, Arizona; two step daughters, Mrs. Jack (Janice) Dowd of Lisbon and Mrs. John (Bonnie) Hamilton of Memphis, Tennessee; two half sisters; Carol Rogers and Nancy Henry; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Mr. Manning will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A brother, Robert Manning in 1942 and a sister, Anna Marie Straub preceded him in death.

The Rev. Betsy Schenk and the Rev. Charles Ready will officiate at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, where friends may call 7-9 Friday.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park at Sebring.

Material tributes may be given to the Lisbon Alumni Association or to the donor's favorite charity.
