East Palestine - William E. "Bill" Hall, 84, of Bacon Avenue, East Palestine, OH, died at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning, February 15, 2009 at the Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana.

Born August 5, 1924 in East Palestine, the son of the late Earl and Viva Dyke Hall, he was a lifelong resident of East Palestine. He graduated from East Palestine High School in 1942 and served in the US Navy as a radio operator in Le Havre, France during World War II.

Mr. Hall was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee. He had worked for the City of East Palestine as an electrical lineman, National Rubber Machinery in Columbiana as an electrical draftsman, Vestal Laboratories and the East Palestine School District. He was a former member of the East Palestine Board of Health and served as Health Commissioner, Registered Sanitarian, Local Registrar and Chairman. He was a former member of the Unity Ruritan, the East Palestine Amateur Radio Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed raising flowers, woodworking and antique cars.

A kind, gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, he will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Chapman) Hall, whom he married June 2, 1950; sons, William E. (Bill) Hall, Jr. and family friend, Candy Lee of Charlotte, NC and Jeffrey (Lisa) Hall of East Palestine; a daughter, Patty (Tom) Foster of East Palestine; a brother, Robert (Sally) Hall of East Palestine; four grandchildren, Dan (Sarah) Hall and Laura (Matt) Gillam of New Waterford, Laney Foster of Hamilton, OH and Logan Foster of East Palestine; two great grandsons, Ethan and Caleb Hall of New Waterford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Brown and a half-brother, Clayton Dyke.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with the Reverend David Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery, East Palestine where Military Honors will be accorded by the Honor Guard from the American Legion and VFW.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be given to the Centenary United Methodist Church, 40 S. Market Street, East Palestine, OH 44413.
