Columbiana- William "Bill" Kariher, age 79, of Columbiana, died on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia, OH.
He was born on February 15, 1936 in New Middletown, a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Myers Kariher.
Bill was member of the East Fairfield United Methodist Church where he was active with the Church Building Committee and also sang in the choir. Bill was a farmer and belonged to the Mahoning County Farm Bureau where he served as Past Congressional Spokesman, County Organization Director and Farm Bureau Youth Advisor. Bill served as a 4-H advisor for many years and was a Springfield Twp. Trustee for twelve years as well as a volunteer fireman for many years. He enjoyed announcing the rooster crowing contest as well as driving a ten pony hitch at the Canfield Fair. He was a member of the Ohio Two Cylinder Club and enjoyed showing his John Deer tractor at the Columbiana County Fair. Bill was very active in his community and was always willing to help others. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking. He will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Challstrom Kariher whom he married on June 10, 1972; two daughters, Sharon (Bruce) Henry of Canfield and Billie Jo (Emile) Dyer of Culver City, CA and a sister, Jean Rice of Poland. Also surviving are two grandsons, Joshua (Emily) and Jacob Henry and a granddaughter, India Dyer.
Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Kariher and two sisters, Mildred Mason and Dorothy Kariher.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the East Fairfield United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with the Rev. Susan D. Antolik officiating.
Burial will be at the Cool Springs Cemetery, Fairfield Twp.
Donations may be made in memory of Bill to the East Fairfield United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, 45675 State Route 558, New Waterford, OH 44445.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
