Leetonia August 27, 2005 -William Roy Fahndrick, age 85, formerly of Woodville Road died at 8:25 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Specialty Hospital in Youngstown.

He was born April 29, 1920 in Baden PA, son of Roy D. and Emma Troeger Fahndrick and had lived in Leetonia for most of his life.

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1939.

Mr. Fahndrick served in the 487th Bomb Squadron of the 340th Bomb Group in the African-European Theaters during WW II.

Mr. Fahndrick had been a High Lift Operator for the former Kaiser Refractories for 27 years and with his wife owned Bessie and Bill's Salt Water Taffy.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Columbiana, was a Trustee of the church, Scoutmaster and committee member of Troop 18 Boy Scouts of America, and served on Camp Fire Council of Salem.

He was also a member of the Columbiana Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion at Columbiana and the York Drexler Post #5532 at Washingtonville.

His wife, Bessie Alberta Bowman whom he married February 27, 1949, preceded him in death on July 21, 1998.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jane (Steve) Mayer of Westfield, NY, Mrs. Karen (Kenneth) Gratz of Leetonia, Mrs. Nancy (Richard) Tirpak of Columbiana; a sister, Miss Helen Fahndrick of Leetonia; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Ready officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Material contributions may be made to Troop 16 Boy Scouts of America % First United Methodist Church of Columbiana.
