Wayne J. "Pete" Holloway

Leetonia - Wayne J. "Pete" Holloway, 94, of 38025 SR 558, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Whispering Pines Village, Columbiana.

Mr. Holloway was born June 24, 1917 in Leetonia, a son of Harry David and Zella Peppel Holloway and had lived in this area all of his life. He attended Maple Run School and was a graduate of Leetonia High School. He served in the US Army during WWII at Normandy, Rhineland, and in Central Europe.

He was a self employed farmer for many years and worked for the State of Ohio in the construction department. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a past Sunday School Superintendent. He was a charter member of the Leetonia Ruritan Club and had been a member and past president of the Midway Grange. He was a life member of the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion where he had served as commander and was a life member of the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW of Washingtonville. He had served on the Leetonia Board of Education for 13 years and had served as president.

His wife, the former Marian H. Helt, whom he married May 12, 1943 died June 26, 2011.

He is survived by two daughters, Dena (Merwyn "Burr") Garwood of Columbiana and Dawn E. (Greg) Chepke of Leetonia; a son, Dennis J. (Suzanne) Holloway of Leetonia; five grandchildren, Sean J. (Jessica) Holloway, Shannon L. (Mark) Ingram, Tara D. (Craig) Muntean, Keri D. (Nick) Stevens, and Kelli L. Chepke; and four great grandchildren, Jack, Hailey, Kathryn, and Grant.

Two sisters, Verla Caldwell and Twila Zimmerman and a brother, Ewing L. Holloway are also deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery where the Salem Honor Guard will accord military honors.

Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and at the church one hour prior to the service.
