Wayne Lichty Bauer

Wayne Lichty Bauer formerly of Columbiana, OH died in Atlanta, GA on June 28, 2004 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the youngest of three children born June 22, 1921 in Seville, OH to Fred and Amelia Bauer.

He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a commissioned flight officer from 1942-1945 working as a Flight Engineer Instructor on heavy bombers. While in the Air Corps, he married J. Ilene Cleveland, formerly of Denver CO, on July 16, 1945 in Uvalde, TX.

After leaving the service in 1945 they returned to Seville, OH where he worked as a salesman for the Medina Auto Parts Company. In 1950 he became a Field Representative for the Ohio Farmers Insurance Company of Leroy, OH where he worked for 11 years. In 1958 he was transferred to Dayton, OH with Ohio Farmers and lived in Bellbrook, OH until 1961.

In July 1961 he purchased the Todd Insurance Agency in Columbiana, OH and relocated to Columbiana. Mr. and Mrs. Bauer ran the agency for 25 years, changing the name to Todd-Bauer Insurance in 1966. In 1979 they merged with Patterson Insurance of Leetonia, OH and Helt-Holloway Insurance of Leetonia, OH becoming Holloway, Bauer and Patterson Insurance. Mr. Bauer operated the business as President until his retirement in 1986 and the agency was sold to Dennis Holloway, becoming the current Holloway Insurance Agency.

Mr. Bauer was known, above all, for his contributions to the community and numerous civic organizations until he relocated to Atlanta, GA in late 2001. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana where he served on the Board of Trustees and chaired the Building Committee. He was the founding President of the Brookview Swim Club, Bellbrook, OH and was a member of the Columbiana County, OH Selective Service Board. Mr Bauer was Past President and director of the Columbiana Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Columbiana Park & Recreation Board and Cemetery Board. He was Past President of the Columbiana PTO, Chairman of the Columbiana County Bicentennial Commission, and President of the Columbiana Rotary Club in 1969. He was twice Past Commander of the American Legion Post 290 and a life member and was a Trustee of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Ohio. A Master Mason and 50 year member of Allen Lodge of Columbiana #276 F&AM, he was also a 32A
