Walter J. Cook

Columbiana - Walter J. Cook, age 91, of Columbiana, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Salem Community Hospital.

He was born on December 5, 1921 in Canfield, OH, a son of the late Lester E. Cook and the late Vera Oesch Cook.

Walter was a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church and had worked as an electric mechanic from Substation Construction for Ohio Edison for 36 years. He was a member of the Salem Area Scampers and the Ohio Edison Penn Power Credit Union. He enjoyed BINGO, camping and traveling on Gad-A-Bout Tours.

His wife, Verda Dickey Cook, whom he married on June 8, 1945, preceded him in death on March 24, 2005.

He is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Robert) Bush of Columbiana and Debie (Glenn "Les") Wiff of North Lima and two grandsons, Christopher (Michelle) Wiff of Leetonia and Jason Wiff of Cincinnati, OH. Also surviving are sister in-laws, Helen Steitz of Columbiana and Betty Percy of New Waterford.

Walter was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Cook and by seven brothers, Cecil, Eldon, Arden, Homer, Harry, John and Robert Cook.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 6PM - 8PM at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Noble officiating.

Burial will be at the East Carmel Cemetery in Rogers.
