Columbiana-March 9, 2008-Voldemars "Wally" Apinis, 89, died at 4:05 p.m. Sunday in the Salem Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 17, 1918 in Ilzane Latvia, son of Alexander and Alavina Apinis and came to the United States in 1949.

Mr. Apinis had worked for the Columbiana Foundry retiring in 1983 and had also worked for Firestone Farms and Youngstown Steel Door.

He was a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Dyke whom he married June 24, 1963; two sons, Edwin Apinis of Columbiana and Victor (Carol) Apinis of Salem; a sister, Mrs. Alex (Velta) Bisenieks of Latvia; a brother Laimonis Apinis of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Clarence Mansfield, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends may call 10-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
