Virginia Pancake

Columbiana – Virginia Pancake, 101, of Columbiana passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Virginia was born in Beaver Falls PA on September 24, 1923, the daughter of immigrants from Romania and Hungary, the late Michael and Anna Popa Simplican.

Virginia moved to Rogers where they owned a strawberry farm until she moved to Columbiana, which would become her forever home. She was employed at Crawford’s Market, Drotleff Golden Dawn and Cucina Pizza. It is there she became a friend to the community she loved. She enjoyed gospel music, hymns and Gaither music. Jesus was her lord and savior, often teaching and spreading the word of the gospel. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 121. Virginia was not only a servant to the Lord, but she was also a servant to her family. Self-sacrificing, she was always there, ready to help, work and contribute to whatever they needed. Her family was her purpose. Viginia adored her daughter, granddaughter and husband, son-in-law and great grandchildren. Her two nephews Larry and Lea Truzzie, she considered sons. Nothing gave her more joy and pride than her family. She enjoyed nature, planting flowers and all animals. Virginia was an example of love, hard work, loyalty and leadership. It is those things that will leave a lasting mark on those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Vera (Ribelle) Truzzie, Julie (Gilbert) Ingram and Ann Gorby and three brothers, Howard (Maxine) Simplican, Mike (Millie) Simplican and Louis (Martha) Gache.

She leaves behind her daughter, Amy (John) Olloman; granddaughter, Darby (Eric) Smith; great grandchildren, Landry and Thatcher Smith and nine nieces and seven nephews.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
