Washingtonville, OH – Vera D. Hauer, 94, of Loveland, OH, formerly of Washingtonville, passed peacefully Sunday, December 13, 2015 at her home.
Vera was born January 8, 1921 in Washingtonville, a daughter of the late Lynn J. and M. Marie Weikart Davis and had lived in Washingtonville most of her life until moving to Loveland in 2008. She was a 1939 graduate of Leetonia High School and a 1943 graduate of Wittenberg University with B.S. degree in Education. She had also taken further course work at Youngstown State University.
She had been employed as a teacher for the Salem City Schools for over 40 years, retiring in 1981, and continued to work in special programs until 1994. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia where she served as choir pianist for several years. She was a life member of the Chi Omega Sorority, the Salem Historical Society, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Vera was awarded the Martha Holden Jennings Scholar in 1967-1968 and was a member of Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society. She served as trustee and secretary of the Leetonia Public Library for 21 years.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L. (Sally) Hauer of Belleair, FL and Douglas T. (Bonnie) Hauer of Loveland, OH; a sister, Myrna Davis Egert of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren, Lara M. Hauer, Sarah E. (Brendan) Prendergast, William R. (Sarah) Hauer, and Andrea L. Hauer; and four great grandchildren, Ida Prendergast, Kellan Prendergast, Jack Hauer, and Violet Hauer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.
Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and at the church one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Faith Church, Milford, OH.
