Four days after celebrating her 88th birthday, Sophie Ann Lyda Siembida joined the choirs of angels on December 6, 2005.
Sophie was Born December 2, 1917 in Campbell, Ohio to John and Katherine Mazgaj Lyda. Married on May 10, 1941, she was preceded in death by her Husband of 64 years, Michael R. Siembida.
She was a member of St. Jude's Church, the Third Order of St. Francis and St. Jude's Women's Guild. She was known for her kind and gentle spirit, generosity, volunteer work for St. Mary Friary, her blue ribbon apple pie, farvel and her endless love of children. Her hobbies included collecting Roosters and angels, gardening, cooking and acting as prayer warrior for her family and friends.
She leaves behind her children: Michael J. (Marianne Semperger), George (Gail Mihalcak) and Margie (Richard) Witmer of Columbiana, Francis, Carol and Mary (Robert) McCarty of Lisbon, John (Deb McMurray) of Salem, Tad and Tom (Kathy Beer) of Leetonia, Carl (Carol Leipply) and Martin (Jennifer Webster) of North Jackson; 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind Brothers Theodore Lyda of Petersburgh, George Lyda of Poland, sisters Cecilia Day of Poland, Valeria Demidovich of Boardman and Genevieve Glista of Canfield.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Husband Michael R. and brothers Frank and Edward.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home in Columbiana. There will be a funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Columbiana. Internment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leetonia.
