Shirley Hill

EAST PALESTINE - Final services celebrating the life of Shirley Hill, 71, will be held at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. Shirley passed peacefully to her final rest on October 19th following a stroke two days earlier.

Shirley was born the daughter of Ruth (Bretz) Wilson and Homer Bradford Wilson in New Waterford in February of 1937. She was a 1955 graduate of New Waterford High School.

She was married on December 18, 1955 to her loving, late husband, Richard Hill. For 29 years, they shared their love of sports at local football and basketball games, long rides through the country-side, visiting family, and enjoying movies at the Midway drive-in with their daughters.

A lifetime area resident, Shirley lived a very full life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved neighborhood walks and spoiling grandsons. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking time to smell the roses, and she also loved dogs. She was raised in the Zion Lutheran Church in New Waterford and was later a member of the United Presbyterian Church in East Palestine. Shirley will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her family for her kind heart, contagious smile, comforting embrace, and words of wisdom... "Straighten up and fly right".

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Hill of East Palestine and Sandra (Hill) Munyon of Columbus; two grandsons, Kurtis Hill of East Palestine and Joshua Munyon of Bastrop, TX; a grand-daughter-in-law, Jenna (Dufrane) Munyon; a great-grandson, Keegan Munyon; a sister, Norma (Wilson) Hurst of New Waterford; a brother, Harry Wilson of New Waterford; sisters-in-law Kathleen (Prater) Wilson, Dolly Hill, and Marilyn Adams; brother-in-law, Jim Hill; eleven nieces, Jean Wolfe, Linda Murphy, Patricia Lacey, Bonnie Hurst, Debbie Flowers, Elka Lane, Lori Hill, Tammy Hill, Chris Barr, Abby Hostetter, and Marty Landsberger; seven nephews Timothy Wilson, Robert Hurst, Fred Hurst, Jim Hill, Kevin Hill, John Hill, and Steve Adams, as well as, many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Homer Wilson; her husband, Richard Hill; brothers-in-law, John Hurst, Joe Hill, Brady Hill, and Jack Hill; niece, Beverly Whitehead; nephew, John L. Hurst, and two infant nieces.

The family will greet friends at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the final services to follow, officiated by Rev. Kari Lankford. Her final resting place will be Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Monetary donations can be made in her name to the Hospice of Valley.
