Columbiana - January 28, 2009 - Samuel Petro, 88, 434 North Middle Street, died at 7:56 a.m. Wednesday at his home.

He was born October 12, 1920 in Alliance, OH, a son of the late Louie and Mary Benis Petro and had lived in this area most of his life.

Mr. Petro served in the US Army during WW II in the Pacific. He had been employed as a furnaceman at Quaker City Casting, Salem, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana, the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion and York Drexler Post #5532 VFW of Washingtonville.

Samuel is survived by his wife, the former, Josephine J. Landsberger, whom he married September 7, 1953: two daughters, Beverly (Mark) Kibby of Columbiana and Ann (Doug) Bryson of Boiling Springs, SC; a son, Timothy (Cheryl) Petro of Naples, FL; and six grandchildren, Daniel, Katie and JoJo Kibby, Amanda and Averie Petro and Alex Bryson.

A sister, Mary Cosgrove preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with the Reverend Thomas Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia where military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday.
