Columbiana, OH-November 20, 2006-Roy C. Smith, age 82, died at 12:50 a.m. Monday at Hospice House in Poland, OH.
Mr. Smith was born September 23, 1924 in Unity Township, a son of the late Lloyd and Myrtle Randolph Smith and had lived in this area all of his life.
He was a machinist for the former NRM in Columbiana for 31 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the New Waterford United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Roy enjoyed woodworking and working on small gasoline engines.
He is survived by his step-mother, Margaret Smith of Salem; his wife, the former Edna Cowan, whom he married March 30, 1946; a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Virginia) Buhn of New Waterford; two son, James (Mary Ann) Smith and Gene (Donita) Smith both of Columbiana; three sisters, Mrs. Steve (Mary) Pavelko of Columbiana, Mrs. Louise May and Mrs. Virginia Semon both of East Palestine; a sister-in-law, Virginia Smith of New Waterford; a brother, Donald (Sue) Smith of East Palestine; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Lloyd Smith and two brother-in-laws, Howard May and Edward Semon.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the New Waterford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mark D. Vincent officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the church. Material tributes may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the church memorial fund.
