Enon Valley, PA - Ross McRoberts, 85, passed away February 13, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Enon Valley PA on July 17, 1929 and lived there all of his life. Ross was married to Mary Evelyn Martsolf on November 18, 1950 and they spent 59 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Eleanor McRoberts, and his brother Herbert McRoberts.
Ross will be sadly missed by his two children: daughter, Debbie McRoberts and son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Jane McRoberts; fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Lori Yhelka, Lisa Gray, Dan and Renee McRoberts; and deeply cherished by his only great-grandson Carson Gray. He will also be missed by his faithful companion, his cat, Jake.
Ross worked as a dragline operator for Thompson Bros Mining. He kept his lawn immaculate with his John Deere tractor, and enjoyed his Lionel model train display. He hand crafted many of the buildings and scenery on the display and loved to show it to everyone. He has a few items displayed at the Darlington Historical Society, including a PAGE dragline he built from memory. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Darlington, PA and Meridian Lodge #411 F.&A.M.
He was a charismatic and gentle man with a great sense of humor who was loved by everyone that knew him. The family would like to thank all those involved in his care from Heritage Valley Hospital, Beaver Valley Skilled Nursing & Rehab, and Mother Theresa Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February, 17, 2015 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, OH with Pastor Robert Saul officiating. Burial will follow in Little Beaver Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where Meridian Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ross' name to the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church or the Darlington Historical Society.
