East Palestine - Rosetta R. Kimble, age 99, of East Palestine, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Christian House Assisted Living, East Palestine.
She was born on September 24, 1926, in New Castle, PA, a daughter of the late Edward and Thelma Sweet Smith.
Growing up, Rosetta played the accordion in her family’s band at various round and square dances in the area. At 17 years old, she graduated from Springfield Local High School in Petersburg in 1944 and left by train with her friend Millie the day after graduation for Washington DC. It was there she landed her first job as a secretary working for government attorneys. After marrying her husband Norman, the couple owned and operated the Amoco gas station in Petersburg until 1953. Rosetta finished her career by retiring from Herriott Trucking Terminal where she worked as the secretary. She was a long-time, active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Petersburg where she volunteered as church council secretary and taught Bible School. She had many hobbies that included playing cards, BINGO, attending flea markets, camping and telling jokes. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to attend one of their various school and sporting activities.
Her husband, Norman A. Kimble, whom she married on February 18, 1946, preceded her in death on, February 8, 2024.
Rosetta is survived by her two daughters, Cindy (Gary) Kimble Clark and Juley (Bob "Louie") Lewis, both of East Palestine; her sister , Luanne (Michael) Fierro of Murphy, NC; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Dan Sneddon) Mora of Boardman, Ashley (Jared) Walding of Palmyra, VA, Jamison (Krisann) Lewis of East Palestine, and Brandon (Amanda) Lewis of Salem; eight great grandchildren, Logan and Mallory Mora, Jayden, Devon, and Adrienne Walding, Kara, Makaia, and Auraya Lewis; two step-grandchildren, Theresa (Chris) Rutledge, and Rob (Blair) Clark; four step-great grandchildren, Morgan and Clark Rutledge, Teddy and Wyatt Clark, and by her beloved cat, “Good Girl”.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Burial will take place at Petersburg Cemetery.
Rosetta’s family would like to thank the staff at the Christian House Assisted Living for the kind and compassionate care shown to both of their parents and for providing so many musical events for their enjoyment.
