Leetonia - Ronald George “Ron” Chamberlin passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 30, 1947, in Salem, Ohio, to the late Allan and Ruth Buhecker Chamberlin.
Ron lived in the area for most of his life, aside from a few years spent in Pennsylvania. He was a 1965 graduate of Crestview High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970.
After his military service, Ron worked for three years at Lordstown and another three years building homes with Wayne Sitler. Farming was a lifelong passion, and he spent many years working the land. Ron later enjoyed a 28-year career as a long-haul truck driver with Fillmore Freight Line, where he earned both the prestigious 1 Million Mile Safe Driver Award and 2 Million Mile Safe Driver Award. He also served as President of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau for three years.
In retirement, Ron enjoyed helping his grandson, TJ, haul seed. He and his wife, Sally, loved traveling together, taking many cruises and making memories with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ron married Karen Cook, LPN, on March 31, 1973. They shared three years of marriage before Karen was called home to the Lord. He later married Sally Kyser Gross on August 20, 1979, and together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.
Ron was truly a family man. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always wanted to be part of their lives and activities. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, whether close to home or out on the road. No matter where he went, Ron always seemed to know someone.
He was a man who never sat still. You could usually find him outside working, fixing, building, or tinkering with something. He was also known for never throwing anything away, and if you needed something, chances were Ron had it tucked away somewhere. He was truly one of a kind and was loved by so many. Family and friends surrounded him with love until his very last day.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sally; his stepdaughter, Leann Gross of Salem; his stepsons, John (Tina) Gross of Columbiana and Jeff (Angie) Gross of Salineville; six grandchildren, Wayne (Amanda) Gross, TJ (Becky) Gross, Jessica (Joe) Godward, Jennifer (Matt) Spillman, Katelin Hurst, and Alexis (Nick) Raffle; and twelve great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, Brodyn, Hollie, Savannah, Paige, Tucker, Ethan, Hazel, Carter, Macie, Adelayne, and Kolten, who is expected in August . He is also survived by his brothers, Kermit (Sue) Chamberlin and Keith (Janice) Chamberlin, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond (Carren) Chamberlin, and his first wife, Karen.
Ron’s legacy of hard work, kindness, conversation, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
