Washingtonville - Robert Lee Shimer, 84, of 120 Union Street, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at Salem Community Hospital. Mr. Shimer was born April 17, 1927 in Columbiana, a son of the late Raymond and Lillie May Shimer.
He had been employed as a laborer for the former Mullins Manufacturing, Salem for 23 years.
Robert served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of Joe Williams Post #131 of the American Legion.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nancy Shimer of East Palestine and June (John) Herron of Leetonia; a brother-in-law, Kent (Mary) Rouse of Washingtonville, a niece, Karen (David) Ray of Leetonia; a nephew, Kent (Valarie) Rouse, Jr. of Salem as well as, several other nieces and nephews.
Three sisters, Blanche Ducca, Betty Rouse and Doris Ducca; and three brothers, his twin, Richard, Herbert and Raymond Shimer preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with the Reverend John Bartholomew officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
