Lisbon - July 27, 2005 - Robert A. McCarty Sr. died Wednesday at his home. He was born April 8, 1941 in Youngstown, OH to Charles R. McCarty and Mary D. Thorne McCarty. Robert was active for fourteen years with Boy Scout Troop 62 in Youngstown. He graduated from North Lima High School in 1960 and served in the US Navy, affectionately known by Bob as "Uncle Sam's Canoe Club" from 1960-1964 aboard the USS Narius and the USS Buchanan.
He was a member of Local 396 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and was in business with his father under Pressure Tapping and Welding, Inc. He loved to do woodworking and was a steward of the land. Robert was also a member of St. Jude Parish in Columbiana where he served as a greeter and Eucharistic Minister.
Robert leaves behind his wife, the former Mary C. Siembida, whom he married November 8, 1969; two daughters, Karen Rawson and her husband Burke of Lisbon and Janice Davis and her husband Charles of Columbiana; a son, Robert McCarty Jr. and his wife, Christina of Lisbon; his beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Lauren McCarty, and Matthew, Nathaniel and Ethan Davis; a sister, Mary Katherine Weese and her husband Terry of North Lima; three brothers, Charles McCarty of Gainesville, FL, James McCarty and his wife, Marianne of Apple Valley, CA, and Thomas McCarty and his wife, Virginia of Orange Park, FL.
Also left behind are numerous friends and family including Old Blue, Ole Yeller, Big Red, Little Red, and Baby Deere.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana, with the Reverend Thomas G. Ziegler and Deacon Terry Coulter officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Boardman. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley.
