Sebring, OH-Wed. Nov. 11, 2009-Robert Louis Kirk, 92, of 800 S. 15th Street, died at 1:23 p.m. at Crandall Medical Center. Mr. & Mrs. Kirk have been residents at Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Sebring, OH since 2002.
Robert Kirk was born April 6, 1917 in Columbiana, OH a son of Louis and Alice Cope Kirk. He worked on the family farm until entering Civilian Public Service during WW II. He worked in Public Parks, forestry, and a hospital completing four years of service. Afterwards, he attended William Penn College for two years and then Des Moines Still College of Osteopathy & Surgery for four years. He graduated with honors with a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. After a one year internship in Bay Village, OH he opened a family medical practice in Smithville, OH where he worked as an Osteopathic Physician for 33 years, retiring in July, 1986.
Dr. Kirk was on staff and served as Chief and Secretary of Staff at Wayne General and Dunlap Hospitals in Orville, OH. He was a life-long member of The Society of Friends (Quakers). He was also a member and served as board member of four Assembly of God Churches, most recently at Salem Real Life Church. Dr. Kirk also served on Akron-Canton Academy, Smithville School Board, Smithville Lions Club, Promoters Club, and Ruritan Club. He was a member of Full Gospel Businessmen's Association, Christian Medical Foundation, American Osteopathic Association, and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Dr. Kirk is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillian Stanley Kirk, two daughters, Marilyn (Dwight) Schattschneider of Guntersville, AL and Jan (Deryll) Amstutz of Hillsboro, KS; a son, Joe (Linda) Hershberger-Kirk of Millersburg, OH; seven grandchildren, Lisa (David) Montgomery of North Port, FL, Mark (Madeline) Schattschneider of Tampa, FL, Rachel (Aaron) Stuckey of Rochester, NY, Sarah (Diep) Le of Arcadia, CA, Bethany Amstutz of Newton, KS, Nathan (Larinda) Amstutz of Gossel, KS and Emilie Hershberger-Kirk of Millersburg, OH; as well as five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louesa Stanley Kirk and an infant son, David Robert Kirk; a sister, Florence Sidwell and two brothers, Edward and Morris Kirk.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009 in the chapel of Copeland Oaks in Sebring, OH with Pastor Jason Vickery officiating. A reception will follow in Williamsburg Lounge next to the chapel.
