Columbiana-September 3, 2011-Robert W. Hawkins, 88, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday at Hospice House, Poland following a short illness.
Mr. Hawkins was born September 25, 1922 in Rogers, a son of Fred M. and Hazel Barton Hawkins and lived in this area all of his life.
Bob was a drag line operator for over 35 years working for ABC Mining and Thompson Brothers retiring in 1987. He served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of East Fairfield United Methodist Church. Bob was also a member of the Holiday Ramblers Recreational Vehicle Club and Billy Bob's Camping Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth G. Houser, whom he married November 29, 1944; two daughters, Ruth (Bill) Rowley of Lisbon and Alice (Jerry) Peppel of Columbiana; a son, Tom (Sherri) Hawkins of Columbiana; a brother, Harry (Ruth) Hawkins of Rogers; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Bob) Thorne, Becky (Shaun) Donovan, Dan (Heather) Hawkins, Erin (Rocky) Hartz, Jenna Peppel, Brian Peppel and Kelly Peppel; and two great grandchildren, Bria and Drew Donovan.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the East Fairfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Michael Namy officiating. Burial will follow in East Fairfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
