Columbiana - May 10, 2006 - Robert C. Douglas, 69, of 122 South Middle Street, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home following a five month illness.

Mr. Douglas was born June 24, 1936 in Unity Township, Columbiana County, OH, a son of the late Charles G. and Dorothy Schaffernocker Douglas and had lived in this area all of his life.

He had been employed as a truck driver for 45 years, last working with R & L Carriers of Columbiana, retiring in 2001. Prior to that, he had worked for J & J Equipment, East Palestine and Herriott Trucking, East Palestine.

Bob was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church and has served on the Columbiana Volunteer Fire Department for the past 48 years. During that time, he held various positions and offices on the fire department.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sue Groner, whom he married April 28, 1957; two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Debra L.) Walton of New Waterford and Mrs. Glenn (Robin S.) Cross of Columbiana; a son, James R. (Joanie) Douglas of Columbiana; two brothers, Larry Douglas of Pleasant Hill, CA and Alan (Marge) Douglas of Columbiana; nine grandchildren, Chris, Nikki, and Andy Walton of New Waterford, Mandy Cross of Cleveland, Lindsay and Stacie Cross of Columbiana, and Stefanie, Katie, and Matt Douglas of Columbiana.

A daughter, Bonnie Jo Douglas is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana, with the Reverend David H. Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.

Material tributes may take the form of a donation to either the Columbiana Volunteer Fire Department or MVI Hospice.
