Columbiana November 19, 2006 -Robert William Chellis, age 84, of 426 Edgewood Drive died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday in the Essex of Salem.
Born August 28, 1922 in Leetonia, son of Orville C. and Dorothea Christman Chellis Robert had lived in Columbiana for the last 12 years, coming from Leetonia.
He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1942 and had been a lineman for 34 years and then a foreman for five years at Ohio Edison.
Mr. Chellis was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Leetonia for 84 years, was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Tri-State Antique Car Club, the Penn-Ohio Antique Car Club and the Antique Car Club of Ohio. Robert also enjoyed riding steam locomotive trains.
He served as a Storekeeper 2c on the USS Bushnell in the Navy during WW II.
Surviving are his wife, the former Viola Mae Crider whom he married October 6, 1946; a daughter, Carol A. (Charles) Rupert of Columbiana; a son, Mark A. (Judy) Chellis of Leetonia; two sisters, Mrs. Elbert (Mary Louise) Lynn of Virginia Beach, VA, and Mrs. Frieda Bevington of Columbiana; three grandchildren, Carrie Madden, Chad (Karry) Rupert and Todd Chellis and three great-granddaughters.
The Rev. Kari Lankford will officiate his funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery at Leetonia.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
His family requests material tributes to the Organ Fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the activities fund at Essex of Salem #2.
The Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion Honor Guard will render military honors.
