Lisbon - February 22, 2009 - Robert G. Bussard, 86, of Glasgow Road, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday at Essex I of Salem following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Bussard was born October 30, 1922 in Fairfield Township, Columbiana County, a son of the late Fred J. and Sylvia D. Graham Bussard and lived in this area all of his life.
He had been employed as a machinist at Columbiana Pump Company for 30 years and was also a mechanic for Ford Tractor Co. for many years. He also repaired lawn mowers at home for many years. He served in the US Army during WWII in Germany and France. He was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, enjoyed military vehicles of the WWII era and was a big reader. He was patient and kind, and was beloved by all who knew him.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his former wife, Bernice Rockhold Little and two grandchildren, Duane Bussard and Bobby Jo Bussard.
He is survived by a daughter Diana (Bruce) Eckhart of Lisbon; two sons, Ross E. (Charolette) Bussard and Robert G. (Cindy) Bussard, Jr., both of Columbiana; two sisters, Janice (John) Neiheisel of Judsonia, AR and Freda McDevitt of Montgomery, AL; a brother, Jack Bussard of Kissimmee, FL; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday. Private burial will take place in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens.
