Rita C. Welce

Columbiana – Rita C. Welce, age 83, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at her home with her beloved family by her side.

She was born on April 11, 1941, in Penn Township, daughter of the late Clarence and Jennie Smith Newsom.

Rita was a dedicated shrine lady, belonging to Kheedawee Court and the Jesterettes in Cleveland, Ohio and Jobes Daughters in Fort Myers, Florida. She devoted her time as president of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of Youngstown for many years.

A member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church, she volunteered her time over the years to several committees and clubs. Red Hat Society provided many friends and good times as well.

She had a passion for the water, and traveled extensively on cruise ships every opportunity she got. Winters spent in Florida with many dear friends made the years seem endless. Rita truly lived life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Rita is survived by her husband, Phillip Welce, whom she married on November 21, 1975; a daughter, Jodee (Vince) Boerio of Columbiana; son, Eric Burkhart of Columbiana and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Newsom.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Cindy Figley officiating.

Burial will follow at Columbiana Cemetery.
