Columbiana-Richard Washinko, 63, passed away peacefully Monday evening, November 27, 2017 in the presence of his loving wife and daughters.

Mr. Washinko was born November 28, 1953 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Anthony and Margaret Zoppetti Washinko and had moved to Ohio after graduating from college.

Richard received a football scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science. In 1980 he received his Masters of Education in guidance counseling from Youngstown State University. He retired in 2010 from the Salem City School District after 35 years in the educational field as a guidance counselor.

Richard was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was spending time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He left an imprint on all who were fortunate to be part of his life. He loved sports, and coached both football and basketball for over 30 years. He was proud to be a part of the 1995 Lisbon Blue Devil State Football Championship coaching staff. He was also known for his annual youth quarterback camp he ran each summer.

Richard was a member of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Columbiana, Fraternal Order of Eagles at Lisbon, Sons of the American Legion, Columbiana, the American Counseling Association and NEA.

Richard is survived by his wife, the former Vicki Beason, whom he married September 6, 1975, three daughters, Amy (Bob) Schneider of Hudson, Jenna Washinko of Brooklyn, NY and Carly (Jeremy) Thompson of Las Vegas, NV; three granddaughters, Ella Schneider, Ava Schneider and Lyla Thompson; in-laws Joe and Jean Beason of Derry, PA, a brother-in-law, Joseph Beason of Harrisburg, PA; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Washinko of Derry, PA; two nieces, Michelle (Chuck) Banks and Cara Washinko; a great niece, Kali and a great nephew Charlie.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Washinko.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church with Father Christopher Cicero. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4:00-8:00 pm Friday, December 1, 2017 and 8:30-9:30 am Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
