Leetonia- Richard "Pud" McCoy, age 98, of Leetonia, passed away early Friday morning at Salem Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 27, 1919, in Leetonia, OH., a son of the late William and Elizabeth Wilkinson McCoy. Pud was a 1937 graduate of Leetonia High School. He was also selected by the Leetonia American Legion in 1936 to participate in the first ever Boy State, where he jokingly recalled being housed in the Ohio State Fair Grounds cow barn. He was a member of the Leetonia American Legion, the Washingtonville VFW, and an active member of the Leetonia Eagles for over 75 years. Pud enjoyed golfing as well as bowling. At the age of 90, he bowled a perfect 300 game. He also loved playing cards. Mostly, Pud enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, and will always be remembered as a man who could do anything he set his mind to. His wife, Wanda Longbottom McCoy, whom he married in 1951, preceded him in death on April 21, 1985. He is survived by two daughters, Pamela McCoy of Leetonia, and Mary Irey of Salem, OH; a son, Richard McCoy of Leetonia; two sisters in-law, Helen McCoy of Columbiana, and Averill Gottke of Paulding, OH; four granddaughters, Melissa (Dave) Plummer, Shannon Morrow, Molly McCoy, and Betsy McCoy; four great grandchildren, Tyler Plummer, Jenna Plummer, Alex Phillips, and Brendan Fredericks. He also leaves his special friend, Roberta Hawkins of Columbiana. Pud was preceded in death by seven siblings and a son in-law, Jim Irey. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia. Memorial donations in memory of Richard can be made to the Leetonia American Legion Boy State Fund, or the Leetonia Alumni Association.
