Columbiana-September 21, 2010-Richard Charles Mason, 89, of 230 Village Court, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Hospice House in Poland.

Mr. Mason was born July 30, 1921 in Youngstown, a son of the late Lester and Mary Bosley Mason. He was a graduate of South High School, Youngstown. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the European Theatre where he received a Silver Star and five battle stars.

He had been employed at the Union Commercial Saving Bank in East Palestine retiring in 1984 after 30 years, 26 of them as Bank President. Prior to that, he was production recorder at Truson Steel from 1940-1942; self employed contractor from 1946-1950; manager at Ohio Finance from 1950-1952; credit manager at W.J. Grant Company in Indianapolis, IN from 1952-1953; self employed retail worker from 1953-1956.

Dick was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine. He served as director and chairman on the board of East Palestine City Park, was a member of the East Palestine Chamber of Commerce and Columbiana County Airport Authority, on the Finance Committee of the City of East Palestine, past president of the Columbiana County Banks Association, a member of the American Banking Association and the Columbiana Volunteer Fire Department, a 60 year member of the East Palestine Lodge #417 F&AM, past member of the East Palestine Kiwanis, East Palestine Country Club Golf League and Brittain Motors Golf League.

He is survived by his wife, the former, Cecilia Troyan, whom he married January 1, 1943 and a son, Robert Mason of Negley.

Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Mason and an infant son, Douglas Mason.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Reverend David Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 to 3:00 pm prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home
