East Palestine-Richard William Brown, 86, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana.

Mr. Brown was born July 24, 1930 in Salineville, a son of the late Edward K. and Elizabeth Bray Brown and had lived in this area most of his life.

He was a machinist for the former NRM in Leetonia and Gormac in North Lima. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where he had been a trustee and the treasurer. Richard was a 50 year member of the East Palestine Lodge #417 F&AM.

Richard served in the US Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean service medal with five bronze stars, the United Nations service medal, merit unit commendation and two overseas bars.

His wife, the former Elsie Kibler, whom he married March 8, 1952, died August 20, 2000.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Putnam of East Palestine; three grandchildren, William Mossor (Leah Vassilaros), Margaret (David) MacKay, Jennifer (Richard) Puckett; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene (Clarence) Hole of Clarkson.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Brown; two sisters, Louise Hudson and Josephine Yealey; and five brothers, Jack, Kenneth, Robert, Charles and Thomas Brown.

Friends will be received from 4:00-5:30 pm Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home with Mr. John Brown, Richard's nephew officiating where military honors will be accorded following the service at the funeral home Thursday evening by the East Palestine Honor Guard. Burial will be in Glenview Cemetery.
