East Palestine, April 13, 2004, Raymond G. Shimer, age 72, of 1265 North Market Street, died at 4:54 a.m. Tuesday at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mr. Shimer was born January 20, 1932 in Washingtonville, a son of the late Raymond and Lillie Miller Shimer and had lived in East Palestine 30 years, coming from Leetonia. He served with the US Army during the Korean War.

He had been employed as an upholsterer for 48 years at the former Kenmar Manufacturing where he retired as a foreman in 1993.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW, both of East Palestine and the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion of Leetonia.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Thompson, whom he married September 22, 1979; a daughter, Mrs. Dave (Karen) Ray of Leetonia; two sons, Larry Shimer and Danny (Sue) Shimer, both of Livonia, MI; a step daughter, Kathy Crawford of Mt. Vernon, Washington; a sister, Blanche Ducca of Salem; a brother, Robert Shimer of Washingtonville; and five grandchildren, Kelsie Jo Ray, Darren Ray, Matthew Shimer, Jacob Shimer, and Danielle Crawford.

Two sisters, Doris Ducca and Betty Rouse and two brothers, Herbert Shimer and Richard Shimer are also deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home, East Palestine, with the Reverend John H. Bartholomew of the Zion Hill Church of the Brethren officiating.

Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday.
