East Palestine-November 15, 2008-Raymond Earl Musser, 83, of East Palestine died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday at Parkside Health Care Center in Columbiana where he had been the past six days.
Mr. Musser was born May 13, 1925 in Enon Valley, PA a son of the late Earl and Mary Gosche Musser and had lived in this area all of his life.
Raymond worked as a railroad crossing guard and a machine operator for the Penn Central Railroad in Conway, PA for 42 years before retiring.
He was a social member of the Edward L. McGuckin Post #4579 VFW, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #467 and the East Palestine Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed playing golf, horseshoes, raising chickens and spending time with his friends. He especially enjoyed the times spent with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Dorothy M. Gorby, whom he married May 16, 1946; two daughters, Mary Jane (Glenn) Vankirk of East Palestine and Marie (Carl) Peterson of Columbiana; two sons, Raymond "Pete" (Joann) Musser of East Palestine and Robert (Valerie) Musser of New Waterford; a brother, Paul Musser of Enon Valley, PA; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Rummel and Lucille Musser and a great grandson, Zachary Vankirk.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Mark Taylor of the Church of the Nazarene of East Palestine officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
