Columbiana-April 1, 2004- Raymond Jack Morain, age 86, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Parkside Health Care Center.
Mr. Morain was born December 13, 1917 in Kaw County, OK, the son of Charles Henry and Louella Bevins Morain and had lived in Columbiana the past five years. Previous to that, he had retired and lived in Tavares, Florida.
He was an operating engineer and worked on pipeline construction with the Operating Engineers Local 66 for 40 years. He was a member of Tavares Methodist Church and the Elks in Tavares, FL and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New Springfield, OH.
He served in the US Army during World War II where he was a POW and received the Purple Heart.
His wife the former Wilma Purvis, whom he married January 7, 1953, died October 14, 1994.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Curl of Euless, TX; three sons, Gary James of Struthers, Jim Morain of Columbiana and Dennis Morain of Vienna; fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A son, Thomas Morain, a sister, four brothers and two granddaughters are also deceased.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana with the Reverend Dr. Robert McCreight of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
