Columbiana – Raymond "Ray" L. Chapman, 61, died at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at his home following a short illness.
He was born January 16, 1954 in East Liverpool, a son of Donald B. and LaRue Montgomery Chapman.
Ray was a 1972 graduate of East Liverpool High School and had worked as an independent general contractor in construction for 30 years.
He was a member of the East Palestine Sportsmen’s Club and a former member of the Columbiana Jaycees. Ray loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing or grilling and enjoyed “playing” with his gas powered RC’s. He also enjoyed bowling and working and became well-known as the town handy man.
He is survived by his wife, the former, Deborah J. Zarbaugh, whom he married February 15, 1975; his mother, LaRue Chapman of Columbiana; two sons, Eric Chapman of Columbiana and Dustin (Amy Tatta) Chapman of Leetonia; a daughter, Samantha (Josh) Chapman-Crow of Canton MI; a sister, Connie Chapman of Leetonia; a brother Shawn Chapman of Leetonia; four grandsons, Brandon Ware, Edward, Spencer and Ethan Tatta; and two granddaughters, Kate Tatta and Lillian Crow.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Donald Chapman.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana.
Friends may call from 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
