East Palestine - Raymond “Ray” Warner Jr., age 81, of East Palestine, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Christian House Assisted Living in East Palestine.
He was born on September 23, 1942, in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Raymond and Hattie Furr Warner.
As a young man, Ray developed a strong work ethic by working on his brother-in-law, Athol’s dairy farm. He started his working career in construction working for Brian Spaite Construction before moving on to start his own construction company. After getting out of the construction field, Ray then worked for many years at Magneco/Metrel in Negley before finishing his career working as a truck driver. He attended Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine and was a lifetime member of Enon Valley Rod and Gun Club. Ray was a past member of the East Palestine Eagles and Moose Lodge, as well as a past member of the Goldwing Motorcycle Club in Salem. He enjoyed dancing and had belonged to the Salem Square Wheels and had formed the County Line Cloggers where he and his wife both taught and entertained folks for 13 years. He was proud both his daughters and two of his grandchildren chose to join the group. He was a hard-working man with many hobbies and passions. Ray enjoyed building and flying remote controlled airplanes and absolutely loved to hunt and fish. Mostly he loved being with his family. He always looked forward to family picnics and weekend camping trips where he would force his family to eat hotdogs all weekend. Ray was definitely a family man and delighted in fact that both a grandson and a great granddaughter carry a portion of his name.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy A. Bowles Warner, whom he married in Volga, WV, on December 10, 1959; two daughters, Tammy (Deborah Stivason) Massey of New Castle, PA, and Bonnie "Pang" (Mike) Henderson of East Palestine. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Tammy Lynn, Dennis B., Christopher R. and Katie, as well as nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dick, Bill, and Bud Warner; two sisters, Kate Crites and Juanita Bennett, and by two great grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
Private family service will be held at a later date.
Burial will take place at Glenview Cemetery, East Palestine.
