Phyllis M. Leonard, 82, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006 at 6:55 p.m. at the Salem Community Hospital.

Phyllis was born November 29, 1923 to the late Albert and Gladys Ritchie.

She graduated from Leetonia High School in 1941. She served as treasurer of the Washingtonville Cemetery Association and was a lifetime member of the Washingtonville Robbins United Methodist Church. Phyllis grew up in the small town of Washingtonville, where she spent her whole life devoting her time towards others, touching lives, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. The legacy of most women lies within their children, though for Phyllis Leonard, her legacy was also in her husband, Robert Leonard, and hometown post office where she retired in 1986 as Washingtonville Postmaster after working for the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years. She had also worked with her first husband, V. James Santini in the formation of Jim Santini Builder, Inc. and continued serving on the board of directors until her death. She had been an active member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, serving at one time as the national convention registration chairman. After retirement, Phyllis along with her husband Robert of 26 years, spent winters in Bonita Springs, Florida where they enjoyed square dancing and traveling with friends.

Phyllis always put others before herself and was overflowing with compassion toward her husband, children and grandchildren. Her family was her world and she made certain they knew it. Besides her husband, Robert, she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Kim) Guy of Columbiana, a son, Jim (Barb) Santini of West Point, along with five grandchildren, Kristen and Cory Guy, Jayme, Jason, and Jenna Santini.

Phyllis is also survived by three stepchildren, Jim Leonard, Robert Leonard, and Sandy Moffett and also two step grandchildren, Samantha Smith and Kyle Smith.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her first husband Vincent James Santini, and a brother Paul Ritchie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Pastor Cheryl Vanatsky officiating. Burial will follow in Washingtonville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Robbins United Methodist Church, PO Box 165, Washingtonville, OH 44490
