Sebring - Phillip Warren Book, 88, of Copeland Oaks, died Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Salem Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 29, 1926 in Lowellville, OH, a son of the late Warren Arthur and Helen Nock Book. He graduated from Lowellville High School in 1944 and Youngstown College in 1950. Phil served during WWII in the Navy Air Force as a Combat Air Crewman and received his Silver Combat Air Crewman wings at the Pensacola Naval Air Station.
He worked in the electrical utility industry for over 40 years. He earned his Professional Engineering Certification in Control Systems Engineering and retired in 1991 from the Bechtel Corporation. He was a member of Sulgrave Lodge #696 F. & A.M., Youngstown, the Al Koran Shrine, Cleveland, and was a leader for the DeMolay. When his children were young, Phil was very active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. He also served in many capacities in his church in Maryland. Since moving to Copeland Oaks in 2004, Phil served on numerous committees and participated in many volunteer projects.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Heck of East Palestine, whom he married in 1967; a son Robert D. (Anne) Book of Woodsboro, MD; a daughter, Wendy Book-Hughes of Glen Allen, VA; and three grandchildren, Philip Book, Savannah Hughes, and Gracie Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Tom Palmer, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Bennett Chapel, Copeland Oaks, Sebring. Chaplain David Parry and Tom Palmer will officiate.
