East Palestine-January 2, 2006-Paul J. Hanna, age 88, of West Martin Street, died Monday morning at his home.
Mr. Hanna was born August 8, 1917 in Columbiana, a son of Richard and Bertha Hartman Hanna and had lived in this area all of his life.
He was an upholsterer for Hy-Comfort Upholstery in East Palestine for five years retiring in 1979. He had also worked for the former Kenmar Division of Ethan Allen in East Palestine for many years. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of East Palestine and the George F. McBane Post #31 American Legion. He served in the Navy during World War II.
His wife, the former Marcella M. Freer, whom he married August 5, 1936 died July 14, 1996.
He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy L. Flowers of Canton, GA and Judith A. Gibson of East Palestine; four grandchildren, Christine Allcorn, Mrs. Shawn (Michele) Elliott, Mrs. Wally (Marcie) Bozickovich and Sidney Flowers; and five great-grandchildren, Ian, Connor and Owen Elliott and Hannah and Daniel Bozickovich.
Four sisters, Francis Ferris, Betty Cope, Helen Holloway and Mary Hanna and four brothers, Charles, Earl, Floyd and John Hanna are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Barry Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Material tributes may be made to the East Palestine EMS.
