East Palestine, OH – Oscar A. Curtis, 85, formerly of Monroeville and Blairsville, PA, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at the Covington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, East Palestine.
Mr. Curtis was born February 19, 1930, in Blairsville, PA, a son of the late George William and Catherine Elizabeth Steeves Curtis. He had resided in East Palestine the past five years, coming from Monroeville, PA.
He had served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean War. He had been employed as general garage attendant for Schwerman Trucking Company for several years. Oscar had attended the First Church of Christ in East Palestine and was a member of the Monroeville Christian Church. He was devoted to his wife, Sarah, and was an avid pool player.
His wife, the former, Sarah E. Kellerman, whom he married, July 10, 1952, preceded him in death on May 14, 2015.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah (Robert) Helbeck of East Palestine; two sons, Oscar A. (Beth) Curtis, Jr. of Delmont, PA and Edward S. (Patricia) Curtis of Gilbert, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Henderson and a brother, Howard Curtis.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, October 24, 2015, at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Mr. Robert Helbeck, Minister, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, PA.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
