Columbiana - Norman F. Elder, Jr., 88, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home. Mr. Elder was born October 2, 1929, in Darlington Township, PA, a son of the late Norman and Myrtle Elder and had lived in this area most of his life. Norman served in the U.S. Army, he obtained a Bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University and a Master's in Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace University. Norman retired as a vice president at International Mill Services, Pittsburgh, PA. He was a member of Grace Church, Columbiana, a life member of Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion, and a life member of the Elks Lodge #305 of Salem. He was also a member of Sebring Lodge #626 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown, Tadmor Shriners, Akron, and the Youngstown Shrine Club. Norman was a valuable adviser and participant in many family projects and took pride in maintaining his home. Keeping the family connected was an important part of his life. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him, especially his daughter, Barbara Karlen of Salem; his two sons, Roger (Debra) Elder of Ruffsdale, PA and Gregory (Cheryl) Elder of Sykesville MD; his sisters, Lavon (Gilbert) Fawcett of Enon Valley, PA and Lois (Donald) Morris of Columbiana; his brother, Larry (Judy) Elder of Poland; eight grandchildren, Michele (Avi) Rodoff, Stephanie (Chad) Smith, Joshua (Amanda) Elder, Rebecca (Jonathan) Byzon, Chad (Jamie) Elder, Daniel (Maria) Elder, Jeffrey Karlen, and John Karlen and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Winifred Jane Elder on June 11, 2013, whom he married, August 18, 1950 and two sons, Gene O. Elder and Bradley L. Elder. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with the Reverend Dr. Robert C. Joy officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery, East Palestine. Military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home where Sebring Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 6:00 p.m. Monday.
