Michael George Madjarac, 92, of Whispering Pines Village of Columbiana, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Salem Community Hospital.

Michael was born on September 9, 1915 in Wyandotte, Michigan, a son of Jacob and Anna Gusuff Madjarac. He moved to Barberton, Ohio at a young age, was raised and attended school there, later, moving to this area with his parents.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II from July 15, 1942 until December 19, 1944, serving in Africa. He worked at many trades throughout his lifetime, and was very handy and could fix most anything. He worked at Fitzpatrick Motor Company in Salem, attending Salem Trade Extension, completing a course in auto body in 1950. Later he worked at Columbiana Dodge and National Rubber Machinery, where he retired in 1977. He had attended St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana.

Michael married Kathryn Stepanic on February 10, 1941. They enjoyed traveling as much as they could and they took a trip to Europe visiting family and toured several countries. They also enjoyed bowling for many years. Kathryn died March 6, 2002.

Michael especially enjoyed family get-togethers. One of his very favorite things was playing with his great grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Richard (Mary) Madjarac of Salem, William (Dianne) Madjarac of Salem, and a daughter Mariann (Edward) Strohecker of Columbiana, seven grandchildren, Diana (Kerry) Brown of Salem, Michelle (Brian) Patrick of Columbiana, Traci (John) Sneltzer of Salem, Eric (Melanie) Strohecker of Columbiana, Stephanie (Bob) Barbato of Columbiana, Kevin (Angela) Madjarac of Platte City, MO, and Nicole Madjarac of Salem, 11 great grandchildren, Meagan, Steven, Garret, Spencer, Jansen, Hayden, Lucas, Eli, Mia, Maris and Liza, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Phillip Lukic and a sister, Kate Moffett.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with the Reverend Thomas Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. on Monday.
