Columbiana - July 16, 2004 - Michael Dzurenko, age 73, of 242 Brenda Lane died at 9:35 p.m. Friday at his home.
Mr. Dzurenko was born September 14, 1930 in Benscreek, PA, a son of Michael and Theresa Hlavata Dzurenko and had lived here since 1976, coming from Conneaut, OH. He has served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He had been employed as a marketing representative for East Ohio Gas for 36 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of Columbiana. He was a past president and member of the Columbiana Senior Citizens and a member of the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW of Washingtonville and the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge of East Palestine, the Fish and Game Club of Conneaut, the Mahoning Valley Homebuilders Association, the Columbiana County Homebuilders Association and the Ashtabula County Homebuilders Association. He had also served as a scoutmaster in Conneaut and had received numerous marketing awards.
His first wife, the former Eleanor Jean Myers, whom he married April 19, 1957 died November 24, 2000.
He is survived by his wife, the former Vera Smith Horst, whom he married August 9, 2003; two daughters, Monica Macklin of Columbiana and Mary Yelic of Denver, CO; six sons, Mark Dzurenko of Cleveland, Michael Dzurenko, Jr. of Powder Springs, GA, Matthew Dzurenko of Youngstown, Monte Dzurenko of Baltimore, MD, Martin Dzurenko of Dallas, TX, and Mitchell Dzurenko of Baltimore, MD; seven sisters, Mary Yingling of Cleveland, Ann Peters of Cleveland, Vern Kick of Summerhill, PA, Rita Coleman of Cookville, TN, Joan Plishka of Summerhill, PA, Theresa Shandor of Detroit, MI, and Marge Byler of Linesville, PA; two brothers, John Dzurenko of Portage, PA and Frank Dzurenko of Roaming Shores, OH; three step daughters, Lynn Hamilton of Columbiana, Sandra Pinon of Albuquerque, NM, and Lorie Wilkins of McDonough, GA; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Reverend Edward Brienz officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana, Ohio, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.
