Melvin L. Mercer

Melvin L. Mercer, 61, of New Waterford died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Mercer was born April 2, 1947 in Salem, a son of George and Ruth Kurtz Mercer and had lived in this area all of his life.

He was a self-employed carpenter in the area. He was a member of the New Waterford United Methodist Church where he was very involved in the life of the church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara L. Robb, whom he married November 7, 1970; two daughters, Jennifer (Michael) Wollet of Columbiana and Deanna (James) Derringer of New Waterford; three sisters, Joyce Phillips of Columbiana, Judy Dales of Parma, and Dora Mae Melczak of West Virginia; two brothers, Wayne Mercer of New Waterford and Carl Mercer of Texas; and was Papa to his four grandchildren, Haley & Ellie Derringer and Matthew and Delaney Wollet as well as many other family and friends who loved him.

A Celebration of Melvin's Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the New Waterford United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Vincent officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements were made by the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

Material tributes may take the form of a donation to either the church building fund or Hospice of the Valley.
