Megan Elizabeth (Gouldsberry) Carl, 44, of Columbiana, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2025 after suffering a medical emergency. Megan was born on July 14, 1980 to Lorri (Whitacre) and the late Bill Gouldsberry of Columbiana. Megan was the first grandchild and quickly became the focus of the family's love and attention. She excelled in track and went on to graduate from Columbiana High School.
Megan adored her husband Eric, and her kids Baylie, Addyson, Roclen, and Jase were the loves of her life. She was the matriarch of her family, and aside from unconditional love, she wasn't afraid to give her kids a kick in the butt when needed. She was the absolute best sports mom that any child could have and rolled the odometers over several vehicles (usually with the gas gauge on empty) going to 4H at the county fair, dance, cheerleading, bowling, softball, baseball, football, rodeo, wrestling, and every sport in between. Although she was a graduate of Columbiana, she became an ardent Crestview Rebels fan and she bled black and gold. She was also a permanent fixture in the Washington and Jefferson College football stadium or traveling the tri-state area cheering on her #41.
Megan's work ethic was unrivaled, and her love of the residents of Covington was simply unmatched. She set the standard for how we want our loved ones to be cared for when they can no longer care for themselves. Whether it was taking a bus trip to Mountaineer to roll the dice or taking a trip to Goodwill bins to do some thrift shopping, the intent was always to enrich their lives.
She had an uncanny ability to find light in the darkest of times and selflessly put others’ needs above her own, often at great personal sacrifice. Her compassion knew no boundaries, reaching not only people but also the animal kingdom. A devoted protector of creatures great and small, she dedicated her life to rescuing countless animals, offering them a haven of love and kindness. Her legacy of care and advocacy will endure in the lives she touched—both human and animal alike. When Megan wasn't trying to save the animal kingdom, cheering on her kids, or taking care of those she loved at Covington, she and Eric loved spending time with their second family at the Flying Finn Campground where they had been permanent members for several years.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Eric, and children Baylie Bettura (Reilly), Addyson Bettura (Deven), Roclen Bettura, and Jase Carl. She is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Lorri (Dean) Whitacre; mother-in-law, Olive Carl; sister, Lisa (Frank) Buckley; nephew, Parker; niece, Olivia; brothers-in-law, Terry (Lee) and Tim Carl; uncles, Barry (Lisa) Miner, Steven (Chrissy) Miner, James 'Joe' (Debbie) Gouldsberry, and David Gouldsberry; aunt, Alice Gouldsberry; and many animal companions.
She will be reunited in heaven with her father Billy Joe Gouldsberry who she missed terribly, paternal grandparents James and Phyllis Gouldsberry, maternal grandparents Charles and Paula Miner. Megan was also affectionately greeted by her cat Swift and dog Dixie.
A celebration of Megan's life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana.
